Dr. Gail Mellow serves as Executive Director of the New York Jobs CEO Council. Dr. Mellow most recently served as President of LaGuardia Community College, where she developed and executed the College’s strategy that increased credit enrollment, graduation rates, and dramatically expanded workforce development programs. Stanford University research ranks LaGuardia among the top five community colleges in creating social mobility for its students.

Dr. Mellow has more than 30 years of experience in higher education. She is a nationally recognized leader on the changing landscape of higher education and strategies for moving low-income students into the middle class. Her leadership catalyzed collaboration between business and education resulting in thousands of new jobs and more profitable companies in New York City.

Frequently appointed to national commissions on education and the workplace, she is also an active scholar with over twenty books and articles.

Dr. Karrin Wilks serves as the Chief Learning Strategist of the New York Jobs CEO Council. Dr. Wilks most recently served as Interim President of the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), where she led the college to being named a top ten finalist in the nation for the prestigious Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.

Dr. Wilks has over 30 years of experience in public higher education, having served as Senior Vice President and Provost at BMCC, Senior Vice President and Interim Provost for Medgar Evers College, the only predominantly black institution in CUNY, University Dean for Undergraduate Studies in the CUNY Central Office of Academic Affairs, and Senior Vice President for the Vermont State Colleges.

Her work has been grounded in a deep belief in the power of public higher education to further the intellectual, economic, and social vitality of individuals and communities—and in its critical role in advancing equity and social justice.
