Center for an Urban Future (CUF) hosted its 2nd Annual Economic Opportunity Summit on Tuesday, July 15, bringing together policymakers, business, and nonprofit leaders to explore how we can expand economic mobility for all New Yorkers.
Our executive director, Kiersten Barnet, spoke on a panel about our work at the New York Jobs CEO Council alongside NYC changemakers La’Shawn Allen-Muhammad (Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation), Steven Colón (Bottom Line), and Rueben Ogbonna II (The Marcy Lab School), moderated by Eli Dvorkin (CUF).
A key theme of the day: the continuous need for collaboration between the private and public sector, now more than ever as federal funding in workforce development and education are compromised. It’s not only about preparing talent with in-demand skills, it’s also about employers stepping up to scale what works, alongside government and community partners.
CUF also released a new report outlining five recommendations for the incoming mayoral administration. We are proud to see that recommendation #4 is to scale the Jobs Council’s model by engaging NYC’s next 100 largest employers. This recognition is a powerful validation of the work we’ve done over the course of five years, and the work still ahead. You can find the full report here.
